RSA 2016 Speaker Roundtable

The first meeting of the WBH Rhetoric Society convened on the second Monday of the semester, August 29, 2016. After the requisite discussion of business, led by the WBH president, Rachel Chapman, the faculty and graduate students who attended the last RSA conference spoke about their experience at the conference. They identified trends they have noticed in the last few years at RSA, and they highlighted the importance of having good presentation etiquette, particularly regarding timing and argument organization. The speakers also emphasized that another key to a strong conference presentation is clearly situating the argument in relevant research conversations within the field. Overall, each individual spoke highly of the professional and personal benefits of attending RSA, as attending the conference provides a chance for both networking and engaging with new arguments within rhetoric. As RSA 2017 presentation proposals are due shortly, hopefully TCU will continue to have an impressive presence at future RSA conferences!
